Horror-on-Sea Film Festival 2022

The Backstage Centre Ltd are delighted to be supporting the 2022 Horror-on-Sea Film Festival.

With over one hundred horror films screened over two consecutive, chilling January weekends, the annual Horror-on-Sea Festival returns to the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel in the new year.

This is the UK’s largest independent horror film festival returning to the City of Southend -on-Sea after a noticeable absence following the devastating impact on cinema during the recent lock downs.

The festival opens on Friday January 14th, and the first weekend runs until Sunday 16th, and the second weekend of horrific splendour from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd January 2022.

The schedule for the festival invites you to see thirty-six feature films supported by a plethora of short films, and this year will see ten world premieres.

The festival’s director and creator, Paul Cotgrove (photo: below right) from The White Bus cinema, has been extremely busy throughout the lockdown keeping contributors informed and receiving every conceivable style and genre of Horror film.

Paul said: “Since we started Horror-on-Sea ten years ago, the festival has built up to become a major event within this area of the movie industry. So much so, that I now receive submissions from film makers and producers from around the world, meaning that we can easily screen up to seventeen films each day, which equates to over 12 hours of slicing, dicing, drilling, killing and general murderous mayhem from ten in the morning to gone ten at night! This year’s programme has received submissions from the UK, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Russia, Finland, Ukraine, India, Ireland, and the USA.”

We asked Paul if the films are all international?

“There are also a number of films made right here in Essex – All Dressed in White, The Allotment, Black Death, Don’t Open the Box, Off the Hook, See What She Did, Helium Mary, Sausages, All Consumed, and Locked.”, Paul tells us.

“We know some of you are big fans of the films that are screened by White Bus – some more good news is the Horror-on-Sea will feature its annual guest lecture from film maker, Pat Higgins. (Photo: Left)”, the festival director and White Bus owner has announced.

After several years away from directing, Pat was lured back into the filmmaking trenches after a Twitter exchange about a ridiculous title got out of control. With no warning at all, ‘Powertool Cheerleaders vs the Boyband of the Screeching Dead’ went from tongue-in-cheek tweet to ‘go’ project in the space of an afternoon.

From having the #1 Kickstarter film project on the planet through to Pat unwittingly addressing over 2 million people whilst sitting in his pants, the journey to get the movie made was a rollercoaster like no other. And that was before the cameras started rolling.

Unseen footage and unheard anecdotes are the order of the day. Join Pat on Saturday 15th January at 3pm, as he reminisces about a gore-soaked musical that you haven’t even seen yet, as he sets out to reclaim his position as one of the wildest indie horror directors in the country.

Full details on Pat’s workshop, and all the frightening festival features, and how to book your tickets are on the website at Horror-on-Sea Film Festival 2022.

We are delighted to announce that supporting this exciting festival will be a make-up demonstration from our new foundation degree programme, Hair and Makeup Design And Application For Production. This course is validated by the University of the Arts London. Designed to advance and enhance skills and techniques in makeup design and application for production. The course includes the study of wig and postiche construction, hair styling for all hair types, make-up for all skin tones, historical, economic, and socially accurate makeup, and collaborative industry projects, in addition to the acquisition of academic higher-level skills, research and industry experience supporting student’s progression into employment.

The Backstage Centre Ltd wish everyone at The White Bus Film Co, and the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival 2022 the very best of luck for an outstanding event
