Battle In The Box starring Jimmy Carr

Comedy, actors, and reality TV stars are coming to UKTV Comedy channel DAVE on the 16th of July. This new series was recorded at the Backstage Centre in 2023 and is a must-see. Comedian Jimmy Carr will present the series and the famous faces who have signed up to appear are: former EastEnders actor Joe Swash, presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor, Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing, top comics Katherine Ryan, Seann Walsh, Rachel Parris, Guz Khan, Josh Jones, Nabil Abdulrashid, Harriet Kemsley, Josh Pugh, Lara Ricote and Amy Gledhill and actors Jessica Knappett and Tom Rosenthal.

Battle In The Box will see pairs of comics and some of the nation’s favourite celebrities battle it out for pride, prizes, and most importantly floorspace, in this comedy entertainment and reality hybrid. The eight-episode series will comprise of four tense double bills which will see eight pairs spend 24 hours in the eponymous box.

When the clock starts two celebrity teams will move into a completely empty box divided by a moveable wall, armed with nothing but a toothbrush. Once inside, they will only have cameras and each other for company – no beds, tables, chairs or home comforts.

Over the course of the day and night, they will need to earn everything by winning a series of physical and mental challenges all set by the orchestrator of this chaos, Jimmy Carr. Winning a game means more space and luxuries for the lucky duo. But there’s a catch: more room for one team means less for the losers, as the box’s sliding wall forces them into an ever-smaller space. And, with games set around the clock, the tide – and the wall – can turn at any time.

The show was created by Interstellar, an independent production company founded by David Williams and Jamie Ormerod. Together they create and craft eye-catching TV, social-first and ad-funded content out of London and Glasgow. With a proven track record of taking original formats and third-party IP from topline to series, Interstellar specialises in comedy, entertainment, and reality television for the UK and beyond and works with brands such as Instagram, Lucozade and Co-op.

They’re in it for two reasons – to make great TV with the best talent and to have a stellar time doing it.

David established his prolific career during a golden period of entertainment and reality programming and has spear-headed many of the shows that have driven the UK’s “water cooler moments” of the past 23 years such as Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, Dragons’ Den, Stars in Their Eyes and You’ve Been Framed. He’s given 10 people a million pounds to give away on Unanimous and in Space Cadets convinced a group of people that they were in space, rather than in Ipswich.

Before founding Interstellar, David was the Creative Director of BBC Entertainment North, and has produced and executive produced at indies including Fox Television Studios UK, Endemol and ITV Studios. David also spent six years in commissioning at Channel 4 as a Commissioning Editor in both the Entertainment and Factual Entertainment teams and as the Editor of E4, where he commissioned shows including Made In Chelsea, Playing It Straight, and Tool Academy.

Jamie’s first job in TV was to transfer Dale Winton’s extensive CD collection to a first generation iPod. Since then he’s been privileged to hold senior creative roles at the BBC (Executive Producer for Comedy Entertainment), Remarkable (Head of Development), Tuesday’s Child (Executive Producer) and Endemol Shine (Creative Director).

Jamie is a co-creator of the hit ITV quizzes Tenable and Golden Balls and is also the creator of multiple Saturday night studio entertainment shows including Jim Henson’s That Puppet Gameshow and more recently The Hit List for BBC1.

So far on his Interstellar journey Jamie has overseen the UK development of Singletown for ITV2, Show Me The Honey for CBBC and created Interstellar’s first studio comedy show in Question Team presented by the redoutable Richard Ayoade.

Battle in the Box starts on Tuesday 16th July on Dave at 9pm.
